High Street Challenge: Round 4 – now open for applications!                                                                                

It’s another chance to transform Southwark’s high streets with inspiring, innovative projects.

Round four of the High Street Challenge is now inviting proposals for a fourth set of pioneering projects that will help achieve the following goals:

•              Promote town centres and high streets for increased footfall and customer spend

•              Diversify what town centres and high streets offer to attract more people throughout the day and meet changing demands

•              Transform spaces to attract new customers to the high street and engage people for longer

•              Improve connections between businesses, residents and community groups to help high streets and town centres to thrive.

Who can apply?

The fund is open to individuals and organisations and we welcome partnerships that bring together diverse skills and expertise. We want to hear from you if you are a:

•              Business network

•              Group from the arts or creative sectors

•              Educational establishment such as a school, college, or university

•              Voluntary sector, community or resident group

•              Individual business (if representative and supported by other local businesses)

If you have an inspirational idea, located in one of the borough’s high streets or town centres, that will help shops and businesses to thrive and bring long term benefits to Southwark, we want to hear about it.

With plenty of celebrations throughout the year creating a burst of community lead outdoor events and activities across Southwark, parks and open spaces will come alive with everything from Street parties, outdoor film festivals and fun days, to community sports competitions, fetes and live performances.

To help you plan ahead and be part of the summer’s festivities, Southwark Events and Arts Service are offering a series of new dates for our popular events management training course, Revealed.

Revealed is a two day event management course offered free to Southwark-based individuals or groups who are planning to run a public outdoor event in Southwark. You will gain an overview of the essentials of delivering a safe, legal, inclusive and fun event that runs smoothly and is an enjoyable experience for everyone involved.

The course will be presented by Entity Events Ltd, led by Janice Hunte, who has worked in the Events Industry for over 20 years as an Events Manager within Local Authorities.

During Revealed you will be taken on a journey to support your own event plans and will cover event planning, project management, venue selection, marketing, licensing, production of your events documentation, health and safety and the critical elements of legislation that must be applied to your event.

Revealed is interactive and will provide practical solutions to the many hurdles faced when planning an event. There are many tips, hints and methods we will share with you to enable you to successfully plan your event so we hope that you come and join us.

Demonstrating impact made easy: how to create an evaluation plan

This is a free workshop part of the ‘Demonstrating Impact Made Easy’ series:

An evaluation plan sets out the proposed details of an evaluation – what will be evaluated, how and when. The evaluation plan should include information about what the evaluation is trying to do (what is to be evaluated, the purposes of the evaluation and key evaluation questions) and how it will be done (what data will be collected, how and when, how data will be analysed, and how and when results will be reported).

How to run an organisation made easy for groups in Elephant & Castle

Community Action Southwark, Cambridge House, 1 Addington Square, SE5

Spend an invigorating half-day getting up to date with the roles and responsibilities of those in governance/trustee positions.

This session is ideal for those new to trusteeship, managing a small organisation or simply looking for a refresher. Using games, exercises, peer learning and lectures, we provide the key information and space to think about the key governance issues affecting your organisation.

We will explore roles and responsibilities, duties and liabilities, the Code of Good Governance and where to get quick support.

By the end of the course, you will be able to up-date the rest of your board and carry out your duties with confidence.

Community Action Southwark’s (CAS) free finance surgeries

Take advantage of CAS’s free finance surgeries. CAS’s Finance Advisor can help you get finance-ready for 2016 with a one hour appointment (or more if required).

The Finance Advisor can also offer help with:

Setting up clear financial systems

Making your monthly accounts work for you

Recovering the full costs of your services

Calculating your unit costs

Planning to avoid financial difficulties

Free training for small charities

Amnesty International UK, Human Right Action Centre, 25 New Inn Yard, EC2A 3EA

The FSI is delivering a free training event in London on 18 and 19 February 2016, offering small charities full day courses on key fundraising skills and governance topics. Sponsored by Blackbaud, and with support from the Cabinet Office, training courses include fundraising strategy, trusts and foundations as well as a half day master classes in major donors and corporate partnerships.

Registration is from 9.15am and the event will start at 9.30am

The training provided and all delegate materials are free of charge to FSI small charity members and associate members. However a £50 is required as deposit to secure your booking, £40 is refunded to you on attendance and £10 is retained as a booking fee.
